RM.Lab is headed by Prof. Dr. Agnes Kontny
Objective
Our objective is a better understanding of physico-chemical controlled geological processes using magnetic properties of minerals, rocks and soils. This approach includes studies in structural geology, volcanology, impact geology, environmental and reservoir systems.
Rock Magnetics Equipment
- Field drilling machine (Stiehl) - drilling of cylindrical rock specimen.
- Hand-held kappameter (ZH instruments) for field and drill core magnetic susceptibility measurements.
- Kappabridge KLY5-A and KLY-45 with low- and high temperature furnace (Agico) - bulk, field-dependent, in-phase, out-of-phase, anistropy (magnetic fabrics), temperature-dependent magnetic susceptibility.
- Spinner magnetometer JR5-A (Agico) - NRM measurements
- Thermal demagnetizer (MMTD)
- AF demagnetizer (Magnon)
