On February 20, 2018, the think tank "Industrial Resource Strategies" established by the Council of Ministers was officially opened at KIT by Minister Franz Untersteller. "Resource extraction, resource use, resource efficiency, and resource recovery are the responsibility of politics and industry. With the think tank, we want to stimulate the dialog between industry and politics, because only with the know-how and practical orientation of the companies in the country will we be able to realize a sustainable resource strategy policy," said Untersteller.
In the process, the environmental services sector will be analysed and new models developed, from the exploration and production of raw materials to production for recycling.
The "Industrial Resource Strategies" think tank is scheduled to run for four years and is funded by the state of Baden-Württemberg and industry. The following companies and associations are currently involved: AUDI AG, Badische Stahlwerke GmbH, Carl Zeiss AG, Daimler AG, Robert Bosch GmbH, Scholz Recycling GmbH, SchwörerHaus KG, Umicore AG & Co. KG, Verband der Chemischen Industrie e.V. Baden-Württemberg regional association, Zeller+Gmelin GmbH & Co. KG.
Other companies have already expressed their interest in participating. If we have aroused your interest and you would like to receive more detailed information, please contact us.

In order to meet the resource economic challenges and to support the companies in the country, the state and industry have set up the "Think Tank for Industrial Resource Strategies". The think tank is located as an independent project at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology KIT. It aims to develop practical and innovative solutions, strategies, and recommendations for action for decision-makers in business and politics on a scientific basis.
"We want to make Baden-Württemberg the international number one in resource efficiency and environmental technologies," said Minister President Winfried Kretschmann. The think tank should become a national and international flagship for the fact that "Made in Baden-Württemberg" not only stands for the highest quality and best possible technology, but also for the greatest possible sustainability.
The environment and the climate would benefit from this, and it would also represent a great opportunity for Baden-Württemberg as a business location. "The think tank, which is unique in Germany, is to provide impulses in questions of raw materials and resource efficiency, pointing out ways and recognizing trends. It advises politics and industry on a scientific basis and is intended to be a guide to the future, so to speak," said the Minister President.
